چکیده

Optimal pacing strategies for cycling time trials have been treated in literature in numerous publications, e.g. Gordon (2005). Generally, the minimum time pacing is sought subject to a mechanical model and a physiological model. The mechanical model (Martin, 1998) comprises the pedaling power P and forces for gravity on a cycling track of varying slope, rolling resistance, aerodynamic drag, frictional losses in wheel bearings, and inertia. The physiological model defines the capability of a cyclist to perform a pedaling power. Both models have the form of a set of non-linear differential equations and potentially additional pedal power constraints:

Optimization of Pacing Strategies for Cycling Time Trials Using a Smooth 6-Parameter Endurance Model

Abstract. Computing the optimal pacing strategy for cycling time trials can be formulated as an optimal control problem, where a mechanical model and a physiological endurance model form the dynamical system and time to complete the track is to be minimized. We review approaches that use the 3-parameter critical power model to compute optimal pacing strategies and modify it to become a smooth 6...

Effect of distance feedback on pacing strategy and perceived exertion during cycling.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to investigate whether providing incorrect distance feedback would alter pacing strategies, perceived exertion, and heart rate during 20-km cycling time trials (TT). METHODS Well-trained cyclists (N=15) performed a peak power output (PPO) test, familiarization trial, and four 20-km cycling TT during which they were provided with only distance feedback using 1...

An analysis of the pacing strategies adopted by elite athletes during track cycling.

PURPOSE To investigate pacing strategy during the 1-km time trial (TT) and 3- and 4-km individual pursuit (IP), in elite cyclists. METHODS Total times and intermediate times were obtained from the 2007 and 2008 cycling World Championships in the 1-km TT and 2006, 2007, and 2008 World Championships in the 3- and 4-km IP. Data were analyzed to examine the pacing-profiles employed and pacing str...

Positive Pacing Strategies Are Utilized by Elite Male and Female Para-cyclists in Short Time Trials in the Velodrome

In para-cycling, competitors are classed based on functional impairment resulting in cyclists with neurological and locomotor impairments competing against each other. In Paralympic competition, classes are combined by using a factoring adjustment to race times to produce the overall medallists. Pacing in short-duration track cycling events is proposed to utilize an "all-out" strategy in able-b...

Pacing strategy and the occurrence of fatigue in 4000-m cycling time trials.

PURPOSE The present study was designed to examine the role of central and peripheral fatigue on 4000-m cycling time trial performance by comparing changes in power output and integrated electromyography (iEMG) in differently paced maximal efforts. METHODS Eight well-trained men performed three randomly ordered time trials with different pacing strategies, in which the first 2000 m were manipu...
